The TV Tower at Rio Olympic Games 2016 - Built with FRAMECAD

The TV TOWER is a successful building case for GypGroup, A FRAMECAD Partner in BRAZIL

"The FRAMECAD system, manufacturing Light Gauge Steel Construction is one of the highest quality, offering an excellent finish", according to GypGroup.

Among the buildings using this technology is the TV TOWER at the Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro. The tower houses the studios of 16 stations around the world for live broadcasts of the Olympic Games Rio 2016. The building has large windows that provide panoramic views, plus an area to receive athletes.

The structure of 18,97m height is composed of two floors and a covered area. The ground floor has a technical area, the first and second floors are closed studios and the stand up position cover contains smaller open studios and RF'S (towers with large antennas transmission). One of the innovations in this building is a studio with slab spans of 10 free meters, located on the second floor.

The GypGroup was hired at the end of December 2015 for the implementation of work with a delivery scheduled for the month of July 2016. Plan, design and built in a few months was undoubtedly a major challenge. A detailed planning schedule in Steel Framing, everything had to be planned in detail, in advance so it could be perfectly executed. The process steps were:, executive design, manufacturing and assembly.

The work began by building the raft - a type of foundation that resembles a slab and covers the entire area of the building - on the interlocked floor. On the first floor they put 23 tons of steel and on the second floor 24 tons. The total work represented 83 tons of steel, an average of 26 kg per m². They used an anchor and a connection system between floors that screwed the whole profile, popularly known as boots. The anchor catcher was fixed to the ground and was connected with a threaded rod, to ensure uniformity of the building.

The walls of the studio were made of double panels profiles structures 90 to assist the acoustic insulation of the building. The floor was made of continuous beams with three supports to reduce vibration, a different solution was to use plaster plate, with its higher density it contributed to insulation between a slab and another.

This building can be considered as one of the most daring buildings executed in Brazil until today as this construction was very challenging. Another success story and an example of innovation and sustainability, as after dismantling the structure, it will be reassemble in another location to be used for commercial rooms.
